This role involves staying up to date with regulatory requirements, analyzing data to improve safety performance, and advising clients on sustainable and compliant operational practices. This role is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing clients onsite.</span></p> <h2><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Essential Responsibilities</span></h2> <ul> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Evaluate novel compounds and well-evaluated hazards for occupational exposure risks, applying the occupational exposure banding (OEB) process to classify hazard levels and determine appropriate controls.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Develop and implement industrial hygiene sampling plans autonomously, selecting appropriate methodologies (NIOSH, OSHA, ACGIH) based on direct observation of pharmaceutical manufacturing and life sciences processes.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Analyze sampling data and independently make recommendations for engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment based on findings.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Measure occupational and environmental hazards, such as noise and ergonomics, using calibrated scientific equipment and/or collecting samples of dust, vapors, or gases according to defined operating procedures.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Assess the effectiveness of engineering control systems, including fume hoods, containment enclosures, and local exhaust ventilation systems, in pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Conduct workplace safety inspections evaluating the use of personal protective equipment, such as respirators, protective eyewear, and other required PPE appropriate to pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, in accordance with applicable regulations.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Identify potential physical and health hazards, such as toxic vapors, mold, mildew, and explosive gas-air mixtures, and implement appropriate control measures, such as adjustments to ventilation systems.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Investigate accidents and injuries, identifying root causes and recommending remedial actions.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Communicate with client personnel regarding workplace safety issues, recommending corrective actions.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Assist in the development of occupational health and safety systems, including drafting or updating policies, procedures, and manuals specific to pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Facilitate and document Job Hazard Analyses, evaluating risk and prioritizing Industrial Hygiene Assessments accordingly.</span></li> </ul> <h2><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Basic Requirements</span></h2> <ul> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">4–5 years of hands-on industrial hygiene experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing and/or life sciences settings.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Demonstrated experience with making recommendations on appropriate controls required to reduce exposure potential in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 14pt;">Proven ability to develop and execute industrial hygiene sampling plans independently, with the confidence to make autonomous recommendations based on direct process observation.</span></li> <li style="font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;
