Our team is at the forefront of new technology, helping founders and their companies impact and change the world. <h2>The Role</h2> The primary responsibilities of the Tax Manager are to (a) coordinate and oversee the outsourced preparation of U.S. federal, state, local, and foreign income tax filings and investor reporting for our funds, (b) provide tax support to deal teams regarding appropriate structuring for investments, operations, and exits, (c) respond to investor inquiries, (d) handle tax controversy matters for the funds and associated legal entities, and (e) ad hoc tax research. This role requires an in-office presence 2 days a week in our Menlo Park, CA or San Francisco, CA office  <h2>To join our team, you should be excited to:</h2> <ul> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Tax Compliance and Reporting <ul> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Analyze transactions and GAAP trial balance information to convert from GAAP to § 704(b) to federal income tax basis</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Prepare general partner estimates on a quarterly basis including allocation schedules and respective 704(b) book-ups, as applicable</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Liaise with finance team to prepare tax estimates and payments for management company</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Advise the management company accounting team regarding tax issues</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Prepare and update fund entity schedule for realized transactions, including analyzing the book/tax adjustments</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Track flow-thru investments and ensure K-1s have been received from the underlying fund managers</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Advise on tax structuring for our fund and general partner vehicles</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Compile information for outside accounting firms to prepare partnership income tax returns and Schedules K-1</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Review returns and K-1s prepared by outside accounting firms</li> </ul> </li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">International Tax Reporting <ul> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Track and update foreign investments rollforward schedule and Form 926 disclosures</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Assist outside advisors with CFC and PFIC analysis</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Compile financials and other information required for and review of foreign company filings (Forms 5471 and 8621) and foreign partner reporting and withholding (Forms 1042 and 8804)</li> </ul> </li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Tax Controversy <ul> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Respond to taxing authority notices</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Manage, either directly or in coordination with outside advisors, tax examinations</li> </ul> </li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Team Process Improvements <ul> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Analyze current processes and feel inspired to improve upon them with technology and automation</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Lead the evaluation and implementation of selected technology solutions</li> </ul> </li> </ul> <h2>Minimum Qualifications</h2> <ul> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or comparable degree</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Advanced skills and experience with the U.S. federal income taxation of partnerships, particularly in the asset management industry </li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Have a detailed understanding of U.S. multi-state and foreign filing requirements and reporting obligations for private investment funds</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">CPA/MS Tax/JD strongly preferred</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Minimum 6+ years experience, in public accounting, a comparable industry role, or a combination of both</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Highly organized, with strong attention to detail, follow up and follow through on items</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Strong communication skills, and highly collaborative–able to work well across teams</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Intermediate level of proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), GSuite, Adobe Acrobat</li> <li style="font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;">Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams</li> </ul> The anticipated salary range for this role is between $179,000 - $209,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
