This position is a great opportunity for an experienced attorney looking to take ownership of a broad array of employment issues in a fast-paced, growing company.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"134233117":true,"134233118":true,"201341983":2,"335551550":6,"335551620":6,"335559740":300}"> </span></p> <p><span data-contrast="none">As Senior Employment Counsel, you will serve as a key legal advisor on all aspects of employment law, policy, immigration and compliance across our U.S. and Canada operations. You will work closely with ALO’s Director of Employment, HR, Retail, and Payroll teams to ensure that our company remains compliant with local, state, federal, and international labor laws, while also addressing a wide range of legal matters related to our workforce. You will also mentor and support other members of the legal team on employment matters.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"134233117":true,"134233118":true,"201341983":2,"335551550":6,"335551620":6,"335559740":300}"> </span></p> <p><span data-contrast="none">The ideal candidate has six to ten years of experience with employment advice and counseling at a top employment law firm and in-house.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"134233117":true,"134233118":true,"201341983":2,"335551550":6,"335551620":6,"335559740":300}"> </span></p> <p><span data-contrast="none">The position is an in-office role based in Beverly Hills, CA.</span></p> <p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES </strong><em> </em></p> <ul> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Provide day-to-day legal advice on employment law matters, including accommodations, classification, compensation, discipline, hiring, immigration/right-to-work, leaves of absence, separations and workplace investigations.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Advise HR and Retail teams on wage and hour compliance, including timekeeping, overtime, meal and rest periods, sick time and paid leave.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Revise and update company-wide employment policies, agreements, notices and communications to ensure alignment with legal requirements and best practices.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Partner with HR, Payroll, and People Operations teams to ensure compliant implementation of employment laws, policies, and programs. </span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Monitor changes in employment laws in North America, with a focus on key retail markets.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Support the drafting and implementation of international policies and employment contracts.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Provide training and guidance to managers on compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws and regulations.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> </ul> <p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p> <ul> <li><span data-contrast="auto">J.D. from a top tier law school.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Active bar membership in California.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">6-10 years of experience in employment law at a top law firm and/or company.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Strong working knowledge of U.S. federal wage and hour laws across several jurisdictions.  </span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Strong knowledge of Canadian employment laws, with working knowledge of differences across provinces.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Practical, business-minded approach with the ability to provide clear, actionable guidance in a fast-paced setting.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Ability to balance many projects simultaneously and complete tasks accurately, on schedule and with minimal supervision.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Experience supporting a retail workforce in Canada or Europe is a strong plus. Retail, hospitality, or another consumer-facing environment experience is preferred.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> <li><span data-contrast="auto">Willingness to take initiative and work flexible hours to accommodate collaboration with Canadian and Europe-based teams.</span><span data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559739":0,"335559740":240}"> </span></li> </ul> <p class="p1">The base salary range for this position is $225,000-$265,000 per year which represents the current range for the base salary for this exempt position. Please note that actual salaries will vary based on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. As such, on occasion and when applicable, there is the possibility that the final, agreed-upon base salary may be outside of the upper end of the range. Please also note the range listed is just one component of the company’s total rewards package for exempt employees.
