Payment Processing Specialist at Skilled Wound Care

<p><strong>Position Summary</strong><br>The Medical Billing Payment Processor is responsible for accurately collecting, processing, and&nbsp;reconciling patient payments prior to and at the time of service. This role serves as a front-line&nbsp;financial representative, ensuring a smooth payment experience while adhering to all healthcare&nbsp;financial compliance standards. The processor handles a variety of payment methods including credit cards, debit cards, checks, and electronic payments, while maintaining the highest level of&nbsp;patient confidentiality.</p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p> <p><strong>Pre-Service Payment Processing:</strong></p> <p>• Collect and process patient payments prior to medical services being rendered, including co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay balances<br>• Review patient accounts and insurance eligibility to calculate estimated patient financial&nbsp;responsibility<br>• Process credit card, debit card, check, and electronic payment transactions accurately&nbsp;and securely<br>• Issue payment receipts and document all transactions in the practice management&nbsp;system<br>• Establish and manage patient payment plans in accordance with organizational policies</p> <p><strong>Billing and Account Management:</strong></p> <p>• Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and authorization requirements prior to service dates<br>• Post payments to patient accounts in a timely and accurate manner<br>• Reconcile daily payment batches and prepare end-of-day financial reports<br>• Identify and resolve payment discrepancies, overpayments, and refund requests<br>• Follow up on outstanding balances and communicate with patients regarding their&nbsp;financial obligations</p> <p><strong>Patient Relations and Communication:</strong></p> <p>• Communicate patient financial responsibilities clearly, professionally, and with empathy<br>• Assist patients in understanding their benefits, billing statements, and payment options<br>• Direct patients to financial assistance programs or charity care resources when&nbsp;applicable<br>• Respond to patient billing inquiries via phone, email, and in person in a timely manner</p> <p><strong>Compliance and Security:</strong></p> <p>• Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and organizational privacy policies at&nbsp;all times<br>• Follow PCI-DSS standards when handling credit and debit card transactions<br>• Adhere to all state and federal healthcare billing regulations and guidelines<br>• Maintain secure handling of all financial documents and patient information</p> <p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong><br>• High school diploma or GED equivalent required; Associate degree in Healthcare&nbsp;Administration, Business, or related field preferred<br>• Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in medical billing, healthcare collections, or a&nbsp;related financial role<br>• Working knowledge of medical billing processes, insurance terminology, and healthcare&nbsp;revenue cycle<br>• Proficiency with practice management software (e.g., Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar&nbsp;systems)<br>• Experience processing multiple payment types including credit/debit cards, checks, and&nbsp;electronic payments<br>• Familiarity with CPT codes, ICD-10 coding basics, and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) documents</p> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong><br>• Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist&nbsp;(CMRS) credential<br>• Experience with pre-authorization and insurance eligibility verification processes<br>• Knowledge of government payer programs including Medicare and Medicaid billing&nbsp;requirements<br>• Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or other languages) is a plus</p> <p><strong>Skills and Competencies</strong></p> <p>• Exceptional attention to detail with strong mathematical and analytical aptitude<br>• High degree of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive financial and patient&nbsp;information<br>• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-centered service approach<br>• Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment<br>• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for reconciliation tasks<br>• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve billing discrepancies efficiently<br>• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team</p> <p><strong>This is an in office position in Playa Vista, CA</strong></p> <p><strong>Pay:</strong></p> <ul> <li>$21-26/hr Depending on experience</li> </ul> <p><strong>Benefits:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Health, Dental, Vision Insurance</li> <li>Generous 401 K plan</li> <li>Paid time off</li> <li>Life Insurance</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;<strong>Great Place to Work® Certified!</strong></p> <p><strong>Skilled Wound Care</strong>&nbsp;is proud to be Certified™ by<strong>&nbsp;Great Place to Work®</strong> for the <strong>7th</strong>&nbsp;year in a row.
