Senior Accountant at Twenty
About the Role
About the Company
America is under sustained cyber attack. Our adversaries infiltrate our networks, steal our IP, and degrade the digital infrastructure that modern life runs on. They’ve learned—correctly—that those attacks rarely produce consequences.
Twenty was founded to change that, by making our adversaries think twice before they attack us. Our vision is American and allied primacy in cyberspace—a future where they cannot contest us, deterrence is assured, and the free world remains secure.
Founded in 2024, Twenty Technologies (www.twenty.io) industrializes offensive cyber operations for the U.S. and its allies. Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, Twenty has raised $38M from Caffeinated Capital, General Catalyst, and In-Q-Tel.
Role Summary
We are seeking an Accounting professional to join our growing Finance and Operations team as the first full-time Accounting hire. This role is central to our core business operations, focused on establishing and managing efficient and audit-ready financial processes. You will own the foundational financial workflows essential for a high-growth software company, managing today’s business requirements while anticipating the requirements for scale. AI-native tools will factor heavily into how you build the function.
This role will be of high interest to candidates with Big 4 (or equivalent) audit experience, high-growth startup accounting experience, and a passion for or interest in the defense technology and cybersecurity industries. You thrive in unstructured environments, and you enjoy the vast opportunity space to improve operations and create scalable systems.
What You'll Do (Core Responsibilities)
Own Accounting and Financial Operations: Own accounting functions, from annual to day-to-day workflows, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness.
Build for Scalability: Identify, propose, and implement solutions to automate and optimize processes. Work with our team to maintain (or reduce) overhead requirements, even as transaction volumes double or triple.
Future Audit Readiness: Prepare Twenty for future audits by understanding the required roadmap and timing of all necessary requirements.
External Management: Work with all external partners, including tax, bookkeeping, vendors, government partners, and auditors.
Systems Optimization: Implement tools and processes between internal systems to streamline workflows.
People & Policy: Develop internal processes, such as expense and procurement policies; build strong relationships with company leaders, as well as trust with all employees.
Special Projects: Support a range of initiatives, which may include real estate planning, variable compensation analysis, cash management policies, and contracting.
Cross-Functional Support: Step outside the normal job description to own some of the key workflows that help a small team scale rapidly – e.g., assisting with Legal, HR, Office, etc.
Qualifications
Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience, including time in Big 4 (or equivalent) audit and/or high-growth technology startups.
Credentials: Current or former CPA is favored, but not required.
Highly Detail-Oriented: You sweat the details, believing that formatting is a valuable tool for cross-functional communication, not a burden.
Financial Systems Expertise: Experience implementing and managing modern financial systems (e.g., ERP, spend management, payroll platforms) is required. Mastery with Excel and Google Sheets.
Ability to Prioritize: You understand the operational realities of a high-growth startup, knowing when speed must beat perfection.
Self-Propelled: You identify gaps and fill them without waiting for instructions.
Future-Oriented: You are eager to explore and implement new technologies (e.g., AI workflow/productivity tools).
Humility: You understand when a task is more efficient manually.
Nice to Have
Government Contracts Experience: Experience with DCAA compliance and government contracts.
Defense or Cyber Background: Experience in the defense technology or cybersecurity industries.
Specific Systems: Familiarity with Campfire and Ramp.
Sense of Humor: Nano Banana image generation ability.
