Drafting Specialist at AST SpaceMobile

Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected.</p></div><p><strong>Position Overview</strong></p> <p>The Drafting Specialist will support AST’s engineering, facilities, and manufacturing teams through the creation, revision, and maintenance of technical drawings, layouts, and documentation for buildings, production equipment, and infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for architectural, mechanical, and electrical drafting activities using CAD and PLM systems in support of satellite manufacturing operations, facility expansion projects, and engineering workflows within a fast-paced aerospace environment.</p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p> <p><strong>Drafting &amp; Design Support</strong></p> <ul> <li>Develop and maintain 2D and 3D technical drawings, layouts, and models for buildings, manufacturing equipment, and infrastructure projects.</li> <li>Create and revise architectural, mechanical, and electrical drawings using AutoCAD or similar CAD software.</li> <li>Maintain drawing libraries, layout collections, revision histories, and released documentation within AST’s Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.</li> <li>Update existing drawings and prepare finalized documentation packages for engineering, manufacturing, and production use.</li> <li>Read and interpret technical datasheets, specifications, and engineering documentation to extract dimensions and design requirements.</li> <li>Support drafting activities related to production flow, assembly, integration, and testing (AIT) processes.</li> <li>Ensure drawings and documentation comply with applicable industry standards, drafting conventions, and regulatory requirements.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Engineering &amp; Project Coordination</strong></p> <ul> <li>Participate in daily coordination meetings with engineering and project teams to support ongoing facility and equipment initiatives.</li> <li>Collaborate with engineers, technicians, architects, and stakeholders to incorporate design updates and technical requirements into drawings.</li> <li>Support implementation of engineering calculations, simulations, and design revisions into technical documentation.</li> <li>Maintain documentation control and organization of technical records and project files.</li> <li>Support continuous improvement initiatives related to drafting standards, drawing accuracy, and workflow efficiency.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Field &amp; Measurement Activities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Perform on-site measurements and field verification activities for buildings, equipment, and construction projects.</li> <li>Utilize technical measurement tools, scanners, mapping technologies, drones, or other digital measurement systems as required.</li> <li>Support engineering teams during facility walkthroughs, equipment installations, and construction verification activities.</li> <li>Verify drawing accuracy against field conditions and update documentation as needed.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p> <p><strong>Education</strong></p> <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent required.</li> <li>Associate’s degree or technical certification in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Experience</strong></p> <ul> <li>2+ years of drafting or CAD experience in an engineering, manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment preferred.</li> <li>Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar CAD software required.</li> <li>Experience creating and maintaining technical drawings and engineering documentation.</li> <li>Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and technical documentation systems.</li> <li>Experience working within manufacturing, construction, aerospace, or industrial engineering environments preferred.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience with 2D and 3D modeling software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar platforms.</li> <li>Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and document control processes.</li> <li>Experience reading technical schematics, layouts, construction drawings, and manufacturing documentation.</li> <li>Knowledge of architectural, mechanical, and electrical drafting standards.</li> <li>Experience supporting facility construction, infrastructure projects, or manufacturing operations.</li> <li>Exposure to aerospace manufacturing or satellite production environments preferred.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Soft Skills</strong></p> <ul> <li>Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.</li> <li>Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.</li> <li>Strong written and verbal communication skills.</li> <li>Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.</li> <li>Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.</li> <li>Ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced technical environment.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Technology Stack</strong></p> <ul> <li>AutoCAD or equivalent CAD software</li> <li>Autodesk PLM or related documentation systems</li> <li>Microsoft Office 365</li> <li>Technical measurement and scanning tools</li> <li>Mapping and visualization technologies</li> </ul> <p><strong>Physical Requirements</strong></p> <ul> <li>Ability to work in both office and industrial/manufacturing environments.</li> <li>Ability to walk construction sites and manufacturing areas as needed.</li> <li>Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.</li> <li>Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas.</li> <li>May require standing, walking, climbing stairs, and performing field measurements for extended periods.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><em>This job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed.
