<p>GSVS is a network of specialty and 24-hour emergency referral hospitals, with Eatontown being the primary hospital. The two others are Garden State Veterinary Services in Woodbridge, N.J. and Greater Staten Island Veterinary Services in Staten Island, N.Y. These hospitals benefit from the expertise of our specialists through inter-office partnership on difficult cases. </p>
<p><strong>The Program:</strong></p>
<p><span data-cke-copybin-start="1">The <strong>Veritas ER</strong><strong> Veterinary (VERVe) training program</strong> is designed to provide new or recent veterinary graduates with superlative mentorship and training to prepare for a successful career in emergency medicine. </span><span class="cke_widget_wrapper cke_widget_inline cke_widget_image cke_image_nocaption cke_widget_selected" data-cke-display-name="image" data-cke-filter="off" data-cke-widget-id="0" data-cke-widget-wrapper="1"><span class="cke_image_resizer"></span></span>Successful applicants in the program will be exposed to a well-rounded curriculum of strong clinical mentorship under senior Emergency and Critical Care clinicians on the floor and a well-developed continuing education curriculum, including weekly structured didactic training. <span class="TextRun SCXW253664004 BCX8" lang="EN-US" data-contrast="none"><span class="NormalTextRun SCXW253664004 BCX8">Further training in </span><span class="NormalTextRun SCXW253664004 BCX8">advanced procedures, including </span><span class="NormalTextRun SCXW253664004 BCX8">ER surgery, may be provided to interested </span><span class="NormalTextRun ContextualSpellingAndGrammarErrorV2Themed SCXW253664004 BCX8">candidates</span><span class="NormalTextRun SCXW253664004 BCX8">. </span></span><span class="EOP SCXW253664004 BCX8" data-ccp-props="{"201341983":0,"335559740":240}"> </span> </p>
<p>VERVe training will entail a minimum of a 4-month training period of focused mentorship and case oversight, and gradually progress to complete autonomy on the ER floor. A 2-year commitment (including training period) will be required of all candidates upon signing. </p>
<p><strong>What you will learn: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Performing a multitude of ER procedures commonly encountered in a busy 24-hour referral facility </li>
<li>Patient triage </li>
<li>Interfacing with specialist clinicians and considerations for internal referral or transfer of cases for specialty care </li>
<li>Balancing a large and varied caseload in a busy ER environment </li>
<li>Developing interpersonal and client communication skills to support and foster the team dynamic of the hospital</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Program structure: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Our training location has identified a board-certified critical care specialist or highly trained/experienced ER doctors to oversee the training program locally </li>
<li>Trainees will be paired with a mentor on each emergency receiving shift, with a ratio of no more than 2 trainees to one mentor per shift </li>
<li>Training period with intensive mentorship and CE </li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Qualifications: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>In good standing with current university or employer</li>
<li>Has successfully graduated from an AVMA-accredited school with a DVM or equivalent degree and passed their NAVLE exam </li>
<li>Citizen of the United States, Canada, or Mexico or eligible to work in the United States</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Schedule: This program starts June 2027</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>During the training period, trainees will work 5 days per week
<ul>
<li>This will consist of four clinical ER receiving days and one didactic day </li>
<li>Didactic days will combine structured didactics, assigned reading, reviews of cases and competencies, and some clinic responsibilities such as following up on cases admitted the previous day </li>
<li>Trainees will typically have two days off consecutively. </li>
<li>No on-call during the initial training period. </li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>There is a two-year commitment to Veritas Veterinary Partner practices (inclusive of the initial training period)
<ul>
<li>During this time, work weeks will be tailored to match the scheduling of other ER doctors at the local partner practice, typically 3-4 clinical days per week</li>
<li>Based on competency assessed at reviews after training, employees will be scheduled for a variety of day, swing, and overnight shifts, again in line with the scheduling norms of the local partner practice</li>
<li>ER trainees will be required to share federal holiday coverage with senior ER clinicians throughout the training program and afterwards, according to local ER scheduling norms</li>
