<h1>The SPLC’s Legal Department is seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Paralegal who is committed to social justice! </h1>

<p>SPLC is a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people. The Senior Litigation Paralegal role will provide litigation support in Southern Poverty Law Center’s Legal Department. The Senior Litigation Paralegal will assist with research related to litigation, case development and/or projects related to the mission of the Center. The successful candidate will be able to multi-task and maintain a high level of organization in a fast-paced environment; excel working both as a team member and independently on projects; demonstrate good written and oral communication skills; exhibit resilience, creativity, and flexibility; and have a proven ability to quickly learn and integrate new information and skills. The Senior Litigation Paralegal will initially be assigned to work within a specific Advocacy and Litigation Impact Team (ALIT) but will likely transition to work on matters relating to any of the Center’s strategic impact areas. </p>
<h3>Who You Are</h3>
<p><strong>Experienced.</strong> Demonstrated experience as a paralegal or legal researcher with strong project management skills to include drafting of pleadings and discovery, document organization and production with the ability to review, proofread, analyze, and cite-check documents.</p>
<p><strong>Adaptable.</strong> Ability to adjust quickly with proper responsiveness to case updates, tasks, or changes.</p>
<p><strong>Analytical.</strong> Demonstrated ability to analyze the assignment to determine next steps and proactively offer solutions to any issues.</p>
<p><strong>Communicative.</strong> Ability to confidently and effectively correspond both verbally and in written form across all lines of communication with internal and external teams.</p>
<p><strong>Technology Skilled.</strong> Experienced and knowledgeable utilizing various software applications and databases to maintain and update case files, legal documentation, and discovery documentation.</p>
<p><strong>Collaborative.</strong> Demonstrated ability to work with internal teams and external organizations to support litigation while also taking the initiative to lead as needed on projects such as deposition preparation or trial preparation.</p>
<p><strong>Organized.</strong> Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail in completing assignments using a certain level of deductive reasoning and properly administering the online case management platform while providing legal support to the legal department.</p>

<h3>What You'll Do</h3>
<p><strong>Assist</strong> attorney(s) with case management and support.</p>
<p><strong>Maintain</strong> and manage case files and documents in database and review databases.</p>
<p><strong>Conduct</strong> research related to litigation/legal case development, verify evidence and investigate facts.</p>
<p><strong>Prepare</strong> legal filings and briefs, add Tables of Authority and Table s of Contents and perform cite-checking, proofreading, exhibit preparation, and electronic filing.</p>
<p><strong>Coordinate</strong> dispositions, including scheduling, calendaring, and retaining court reporter services.</p>
<p><strong>Assist</strong> with discovery projects, upload, organize and review key information.</p>
<p><strong>Prepare</strong> exhibits, case law/pleading binders, and case correspondence for deposition, hearings and trials.</p>
<p><strong>Obtain</strong> and communicate accurate court rules, procedures, and admissions.</p>
<p><strong>Train</strong> and mentor legal staff as needed.</p>
<p><strong>Perform</strong> other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.</p>

<h3>Minimum Qualifications </h3>
<p><em>We are committed to equitable hiring practices; therefore, you must meet the minimum qualifications to be considered for the role.</em></p>
<ul>
<li>Minimum 5 years of paralegal experience; and</li>
<li>High school diploma or GED.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Compensation & Benefits</h3>
<p>This is a non-exempt role, and the minimum starting salary is $69,702 annually ($33.51 hourly). </p>

<h3>Where & How You'll Work </h3>
<p>This role has the following work designation options:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Local Remote:</strong> Will work remotely but is expected to attend work-related activities that occur at the SPLC offices or in the states in which the SPLC operates.</li>
<li><strong>Telework:</strong> Will work at an SPLC office at least three days per week and may work two days per week from an alternative work location.</li>
<li>This position will report to the Senior Supervising Litigation Paralegal.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Other Special Considerations </h3>
<p>This job is performed under general office conditions and is not subject to any strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.</p>
