About the Role

We are seeking a bilingual (oral and written fluency in English and Spanish is required) Paralegal to join our dynamic International Litigation and Arbitration Department (ILAD). In addition to our highly renowned Public International Law practice, Foley Hoag boasts a sophisticated and widely recognized International Arbitration practice that handles complex and high-volume controversies, both in investor-State disputes and commercial disputes. As a paralegal, you will have an unparalleled opportunity to work directly on high-profile and innovative international legal cases. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and resourceful professional, demonstrate the ability to work independently and manage multiple demands on their time, and bring a strong interest in international affairs and the legal field. Currently, this role requires onsite presence three days per week, with in-office attendance typically expected Tuesday—Thursday; however, specific scheduling may be determined by your supervisor. Candidates must be available and willing to work overtime hours when necessary to meet the demands of the position.  Professional fluency in both English and Spanish is required. Only candidates with strong verbal and written proficiency in both languages will be considered.   Responsibilities  <ul style="text-align: justify;"> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Maintain and manage case files (evidence, court and arbitration filings, etc.) </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Conduct factual and basic legal research </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Prepare and submit filings to courts and dispute resolution institutions (including cite checking, assembling annexes, etc.) </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Work closely with attorneys on case teams to develop and litigate or arbitrate cases </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Review documents for importance and relevance to case </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Review translations for accuracy </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Occasional research in the field </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Provide support during hearings and meetings (locally and abroad) </li> </ul> Qualifications  <ul style="text-align: justify;"> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Bachelor’s degree </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish is required; proficiency in French, Portuguese, or additional official UN languages is a plus </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Prior paralegal experience is a plus but not required </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to perform basic research </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Strong writer with prior experience proofreading and editing content; keen attention to detail and accuracy in written work </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Knowledge of desktop publishing and other litigation database software a plus; prior experience with Exhibit Manager is ideal </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Strong computer and Internet skills </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize tasks effectively </li> <li style="font-size: 12pt;">Willingness to work overtime, including weekends, as needed </li> </ul> Compensation range is $69,700 to $87,200, commensurate with related experience and qualifications. The salary of the candidate selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, specialty, and training.
