Strategy MBA Intern at Wagmo
About the Role
What We Do
Wagmo is a modern pet healthcare company built around how pet parents actually care for their pets. We partner with employers to provide a complete approach to pet and pet-parent wellbeing, from preventive wellness plans and emergency coverage to 24/7 pet telehealth guidance. Our purpose is to unlock every pet parent’s potential to provide extraordinary care, and we do it by bringing the same intentionality to pet benefits that the best employers bring to human healthcare. Founded in 2017 and female-founded, Wagmo is headquartered in New York City and trusted by leading employers nationwide.
What’s Important To Us
Our mission shapes everything we build and how we work together. We take fearless ownership of outcomes, collaborate with radical candor, and are always driven by the customers and pet parents who trust us. We think critically, follow through relentlessly, and find the extra 10% that turns good work into exceptional work. We keep it weird because the obvious answer is rarely the most interesting one. Our values aren’t aspirational. We interview for them and hold each other accountable to them. If what you’ve read so far resonates with you and you want to be part of a team where every person makes the company meaningfully better, we’d love to hear from you.
About The Role
As a Strategy MBA Intern at Wagmo, you will work directly with the CEO and executive team on high-priority strategic initiatives that strengthen and scale our core business. The work is deeply quantitative: you’ll spend your summer building models, analyzing data, and turning numbers into clear recommendations that leadership can act on. Projects will span competitive and market research across the pet industry, pricing and plan economics, product investment analysis, and evaluations of adjacent business opportunities, all with direct exposure to how a high-growth company makes strategic decisions. This is an ideal role for someone who loves spreadsheets, thinks critically about business problems, and also happens to be obsessed with their cat or dog.
Location: This is a hybrid internship based in NYC; interns must be willing and able to work in-office at least three days per week.
Core Responsibilities
Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the pet industry landscape: mapping established and emerging players, identifying whitespace, and developing a market positioning framework that informs Wagmo’s strategic priorities
Lead pricing and plan economics analyses, including evaluation of plan structures, cost benchmarks, utilization patterns, and contribution margins across key segments to support data-driven recommendations on plan design
Build and maintain financial models including scenario analyses, pro forma projections for new product areas, and margin analyses that support executive decision-making
Own projections and business cases for potential product investments, working with the product team to model expected adoption, engagement, and economic impact of new capabilities
Evaluate adjacent strategic opportunities such as enhancements to our current membership offerings and potential partnership structures, developing frameworks and economic models to guide leadership decisions
Create executive-ready memos, presentations, and briefing materials synthesizing insights, risks, and strategic recommendations for the CEO and senior team
What You’ll Need To Be Successful
Currently enrolled in an MBA program or a recent MBA graduate
Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to build clean, well-structured financial models from scratch
Advanced spreadsheet skills and comfort working in data-heavy, model-intensive environments
Clear, structured writing and the ability to synthesize complex analysis into concise, actionable executive-ready deliverables
High ownership and sound judgment: you can take a fuzzy, ambiguous problem and produce a crisp, well-reasoned output with minimal hand-holding
Interest in strategy, pricing, product analytics, startups, and the pet, healthcare, or benefits space
Demonstrated ability to creatively leverage AI tools for data analysis, market research, or financial modeling is a strong plus
Why Consider This Role?
Pet spending in the U.S. has reached $200 billion and the category is still early in its lifecycle. Wagmo is building the platform to lead it. This is a rare chance to own strategic analyses that will directly shape how the business prices, invests, and grows.
You won’t be fetching coffee or building decks no one reads. You’ll have direct exposure to real strategic decisions, working directly with the CEO and senior leaders who give feedback on your models, memos, and executive storytelling.
Wagmo is a female-founded, Inc. 5000 recognized company where performance matters more than pedigree. The team is exceptionally smart, curious, and kind, led by transparent and low-ego leadership. We take the work seriously and never take ourselves too seriously.
