For more information, please visit <a href="http://www.genedx.com/">www.genedx.com</a>.  Summary   This is an on-site position in Gaithersburg, MD, and the available shifts are 10:30am - 7:00pm EST and 11:00am - 7:30pm EST  The Billing Support Specialist I is an entry-level position responsible for providing outstanding customer service to patients and healthcare providers regarding billing inquiries. This role supports the billing team by managing client and patient questions, resolving payment issues, and ensuring accurate data entry. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and passionate about helping others in a healthcare setting.   Job Responsibilities  <ul> <li>Respond to patient and provider billing inquiries via phone and email, ensuring prompt and professional service. </li> <li>Participate in a rotational schedule, alternating between managing inbound calls and handling emails, tickets, outbound calls, and problem resolution. </li> <li>Enter and maintain accurate patient information in billing systems. </li> <li>Review and process forms, including medical hold forms and faxes, and manage inbound/outbound queues. </li> <li>Investigate and resolve basic billing discrepancies, process payments, refunds, and adjustments. </li> <li>Maintain detailed records of customer interactions and transactions. </li> <li>Collaborate with finance and customer service teams to support seamless billing operations. </li> <li>Educate clients on general billing-related issues as needed. </li> <li>Contact clients and insurance companies to obtain information for prior authorization and claim submission. </li> <li>Navigate various payor types, including commercial/private payors, Medicare, and Medicaid. </li> <li>Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute ideas to enhance billing procedures. </li> </ul>  People Manager   <ul> <li data-leveltext="·" data-font="Symbol" data-listid="11" data-list-defn-props="{"335552541":1,"335559685":1080,"335559991":360,"469769226":"Symbol","469769242":[8226],"469777803":"left","469777804":"·","469777815":"hybridMultilevel"}" data-aria-posinset="12" data-aria-level="1">No </li> </ul>  Education, Experience, and Skills   <ul> <li>High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in a related field preferred. </li> <li>Basic knowledge of medical terminology (training provided). </li> <li>Strong data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy. </li> <li>Excellent phone etiquette and interpersonal skills. </li> <li>Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. </li> <li>Passion for providing excellent customer service in the healthcare industry. </li> <li>Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. </li> <li>Calm and professional approach to stressful or difficult situations. </li> <li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with billing software (Xifin, Careviso) and Salesforce is a plus. </li> <li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team. </li> <li>High level of empathy and customer service orientation. </li> </ul> Preferred:  <ul> <li>1 year of experience in a billing, customer support, or healthcare setting is a plus. </li> <li>Bilingual skills are a plus. </li> </ul>  Certificates, Licenses, Registrations  <ul> <li data-leveltext="" data-font="Symbol" data-listid="12" data-list-defn-props="{"335552541":1,"335559685":1080,"335559991":360,"469769226":"Symbol","469769242":[8226],"469777803":"left","469777804":"","469777815":"hybridMultilevel"}" data-aria-posinset="1" data-aria-level="1">None </li> </ul> Work Environment  This is a fully onsite position. The employee will work from our office location in Gaithersburg, MD, five days per week. Work is performed in a professional office setting with standard lighting, temperature control, and low to moderate noise levels. Standard office equipment, including a computer, phone, and video conferencing tools are used.
